Gnocchi – Pasta or Potato?
Gnocchi are shaped like pasta but made from potato and flour. For that reason, gnocchi are often compared to pasta, but being made from different ingredients means they belong to a different category. Gnocchi are more comparable to dumplings. They can, however, be enjoyed in a similar way to pasta when paired with sauces and traditional Italian ingredients.
Are Gnocchi Better Boiled or Fried?
Gnocchi are typically boiled in salt water until they float to the surface. This is one of the reasons they’re so popular – you can have a hearty dish ready with very little time or effort. But it’s also possible to fry gnocchi. Frying usually takes an extra few minutes, but it results in the gnocchi having a firmer and crispier coating which many people enjoy. Both methods of cooking gnocchi have their own outcome. You can try both and decide for yourself which is better.
