Classic Canadian Flavours
A quintessential Canadian dish, authentic poutine is a comforting meal loaded with potatoes, savoury gravy and, of course, squeaky white cheese curds. Although this dish is a national favourite, many would attribute its beginning to the French-Canadian area of Québec.
This new and incredibly tasty take on a classic poutine recipe uses Olivieri® Fresh Classic Potato Skillet Gnocchi in place of traditional fried potatoes for over-the-top deliciousness. Impress your family and friends with a surprising bite at your next get-together or potluck dinner! When it comes to the gravy, choose what you like best whether it be made from chicken broth, beef broth or a wonderful blend of them both. You can make your own homemade version after a large holiday meal or use a store-bought variety that fits your preferences best. If desired, this poutine can also include meat such as tender slow roasted beef, duck, pork or bacon, lobster meat or to keep it naturally vegetarian – mushrooms.
What Cheese Curds are Best for Poutine?
Most would say that the best cheese curds are those that are fresh and squeaky rather than gooey and melty. The type of cheese may depend on personal preference but commonly white Cheddar cheese curds are used or another white cheese variety.
If you find yourself without cheese curds, block mozzarella (not the fresh variety) can be used as it offers a similar neutral flavour.
